Low Balance Notifications for Pre-Paid Accounts

Prev Next

Flowroute has a low balance notification function for pre-paid accounts. It sends a message to the primary email address on file when a pre-paid account balance reaches a certain amount. The customer can then add funds to the account or take other actions as needed.

This article first explains how balance notifications work for pre-paid accounts and then how to set the notification, change it, and cancel it. For post-paid (credit) accounts, refer to Low Balance Notifications for Post-Paid Accounts.

Flowroute also offers an automatic funding option, see Set Up Auto-Replenishment. This helps avoid a negative balance based on adjustable input from the customer. Auto-replenishment parameters are user-defined and automatically fund the account to match the balance amount set. A credit card on file is required to use this feature.

Determine Low Balance Threshold

For example, if a customer has pre-paid $200, they might want to get a notification if the balance reaches $50. Then they can add more funds or take other actions. In this case, in the Low balance threshold: field, enter 50. The customer can determine this number based on their experience of their communication use.

Set Low Balance Notification

Log into the account at any time to set the threshold.

  1. Log into Flowroute Manage.

  2. Click Preferences, and then click Balance Management.

  1. Scroll to the Low Balance Notifications section.

  2. Click in the Low balance threshold field and enter the dollar amount. No commas or decimals are needed unless you are writing the balance to the cent.

  3. Click the slider next to Disabled. The Disable label changes to Enabled, the system adds a decimal and zeros, unless they have been added, and it sets the low balance. When the balance reaches this amount, an email notification is sent to the billing email address stating the account has reached that threshold.

Note: By default, low balance notification is disabled.

Note: If the low balance threshold is set below the auto-replenishment threshold, the auto-replenishment of funds should prevent the low balance notification. If a low balance notification is received then, something usual is happening in the account and it needs attention.

Change Low Balance Notification

Log into the account at any time to change the threshold to send notifications. These steps assume a low balance threshold is already set.

If notifications are too frequent, set the Low balance threshold closer to the pre-paid amount.

For a pre-paid amount of $200, instead of 50, enter 25.

If a notification was sent too close to reaching the pre-paid limit, set the Low balance threshold farther from the pre-paid amount.

Instead of 50, enter 75.

Test any numbers until the best number for the requirements is found.

  1. Log in to Flowroute Manage.

  2. Click Preferences, and then click the Balance Management tab.

  3. Scroll to the Low Balance Notifications section.

  4. To change the low balance threshold, enter the new value into the Low balance threshold: field and click Adjust Threshold.

Disable Low Balance Notification

Log into the account at any time to stop notifications.

  1. Log in to Flowroute Manage.

  2. Click Preferences, and then click the Balance Management tab.

  3. Scroll to the Low Balance Notifications section.

  4. Click the slider next to Enabled. The Enabled label changes to Disabled, the Low balance threshold: field is left blank, and no low balance notifications will be sent for any reason.
